The initial material for the Future Fundamental Pavilion is our new daily companion: FFP2 protective masks. According to Greenpeace (2021), 129 billion protective masks are used worldwide every month. The reuse of these masks creates a space for events that encourage reflection on the experience of the pandemic. The goal is to provide the public with a place for contemplation and a platform for discourse. More than 10,000 recycled masks come together to create this unique space. These recycled masks are assembled on an 8-meter diameter tent structure, resembling shingles. The translucent masks offer a fresh perspective on the pandemic and its global impact. Each individual mask symbolizes the shared experience of isolation, while the image of thousands of masks conveys a sense of collective solidarity.
The Future Fundamental Pavilion (FFP) is a group artwork by acute. It was the first project conceived, organised and implemented by acute itself. It was situated on the square of the Old Synagogue in Freiburg (GER) and also at the Zénith in Strasbourg (FR). The pavilion was primarily self-funded and received support in the form of donations, primarily consisting of in-kind services. Due to its modular design, the pavilion can be disassembled and reassembled, allowing other exhibitions to express their interest in hosting the FFP and making this space of reflection accessible to a broader audience.
The offer includes only the masks and not the metal structure.
