Deconstruction of film
There are films that have one iconic scene. An image that stands as a momentary picture for the entire film. A snapshot that - whether you‘ve seen the film or not, like it or not - immediately triggers a chain of associations. Even when the actual image is almost completely abstracted...
Titanic, Die Hard, Jungle Book, Matrix, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Pretty Woman, Fight Club, etc.: iconic films that have become deeply embedded in the collective memory of society, of a particular (cultural) space and time period.
Mainstream is often used in this context with a negative connotation, but in the most postive sense it creates a collective memory and thus becomes, even decades later, a strong link between the individuals of a society.
