The installation Force Field consists of seventeen large glass ampoules containing a variety of herbs and medicinal plants in their tinctures, supported by carbon steel springs, and fixed to the wall. In different heights, sizes, colors and textures, the pieces make up a visual ensemble that can sway smoothly when touched by viewers. Movement, rhythm and music are implicit in the installation, arranged as a musical staff.
Force field continues the artist's investigation into the power of water, as life and healing. To carry out this work, Mercedes went in search of water in protected areas of the Atlantic Forest, where she also collected plants and medicinal herbs. Each glass ampoule contains a portion of matter and memory of the places visited, thus establishing the connection between different times and spaces. Each set is unique, with specific alchemies and in the whole the pieces activate each other, establishing an energetic and fictional force.
According to the artist, "force field" is the set of factors that when together potentialize each other generating an energy field, a force, which is not visible, but can be perceived by people. A concept that exists in science, fiction and poetry.
With the insertion of plants, the work explores different textures, the chromatic relationships of the various dyes, their physical, biological and symbolic properties. The work proposes a dialogue with life’s force, always multiple, that springs in an indeterminate way and dissipates, in a continuous cycle, in which the end nourishes the beginning, always walking side by side.
