Emotional Endurance Test is a sound installation focused on communicative interaction in a couple's dynamic. What should have been a meeting at 6 p.m. transforms into an emotional endurance test for her, who waits exasperated for her beloved in vain. In the work, his voice and hers never intertwine to form a dialogue: theirs are statements, formulated without listening to the other. Listening to and interrupting this apparent dialogue is the voice of a voice-controlled intelligent assistant, which attempts to assist the two humans failing to capture exactly what the request formulated is. The flat intonation of the couple’s voices, together with a text where listening to the other is absent, ultimately will become like the same robotic voice that interrupts them: binary codes, where—due to the impossibility of defining the cause of their emotional glitch—they will never reach a gray zone, between the zero and the one, where sharing of the same meaning would be reached. This work questions the structure of meaning itself, destined to be ephemeral, imperceptible, fluid, never perfectly definable because linked to subjective perception. It asks whether communication, defined as the sharing of meaning, has been influenced by an information society that engulfs meaning within the limits of a binary language, resulting in the failure of communication itself.
