This work is an installation recreating the Australian Great Barrier Reef made entirely out of cast crystal glass. It draws attention to the wonder and awe of this world heritage site that is currently under threat from climate change.
It also speaks to the importance of diversity and healthy human ecosystems that support our international arts community. There are many nuanced symbiotic relationships and colourful characters in the art world, as well as important less visible creatures and exchanges that keep the sector vibrant, self-sustaining and resilient. We need to embrace and nurture all types of characters to keep the eco-system healthy. Submerged underneath the colour and joy are serious issues of survival and struggle.
This installation has many components (close to 100 objects so far) and would ideally be installed in shallow waters to enhance the light and emotional connection between forms, partially exposing them in a way that both is delightful to behold but also vulnerabile.
