Chromatic Terrains: A Symphony of Expansiveness
Chromatic Terrains: A Symphony of Expansiveness gracefully traverses the palimpsest of Earth's perpetual cycles over eons, transformed into earthly pigments that have been meticulously sourced by the artist from disrupted landscapes—landslides, road cuts, and erosion—across the Bundjalung Country of the Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia. These raw materials vividly illustrate the transformative influence of time and geological processes, capturing the essence of igneous lava flows and pre-volcanic soils from 250 million years ago.
Offering a meditative pause for reflection, Chromatic Terrains beckons viewers to contemplate the profound evolution, both internally and externally, experienced by inhabitants of this land. In the words of Zhuangzi, "Let your mind wander in simplicity, blend your spirit with the vastness, follow along with things the way they are, and make no room for personal views."
Chromatic Terrains proposes a phenomenological experience that invites the
viewer's contemplation and imagination. Through this interaction, the work
offers an opportunity for viewers to reflect on their own experiences of
transformation and change, and to connect with the vastness and complexity
of the world around them.
The artwork is comprised of seven double-sided suspended installation components.
