Between fragility and the possibility of flight.
Swinging represents the possibility of momentary buoyancy, of a suspension of time and the body. Through movement, the body becomes light and approaches the idea of flying.
However, in this work, that “flight” appears as a frustrated dream.
The swing presented here does not function as a utilitarian object. The chain, made of wax, renders it fragile and unusable.
The wax, a material that remains unchanged, is obtained by melting votive offerings that devotees leave at sacred sites in search of healing. These are memories of diverse people who, through the casting process, regain a three-dimensional form and a new meaning.
The promise of elevation, of flight, as well as salvation, proves to be illusory.
