Caressing the Anchor centers on my dog Robby, who passed away.
He was always travelling with me and my family, loved to touch nature. After he passed away, I travelled alone; the more I remembered him, the more my memories faded. A loved one who has died becomes fixed in a moment from the past, where no new experiences can form with them. Each time they’re remembered, it’s like carving their image again.
Brain fog dulls what once was vivid. Inspired by the colors of Chinese Tang San Cai and the poetic sensibility of Shan Shui painting, I laser-etched patterns into wool, create delicate marks-anchors to hold onto what remains.
Still, over time, with frequent touching, even these engraved surfaces can slowly fade.
