I
started doing this because I was so angry about brexit; I thought
perhaps if I said it and stitched it and wrote it in thread enough
times, maybe brexit wouldn’t happen. Of course I knew that I couldn’t
stop it, that brexit was going to happen but anyway I started at the top
and I thought ‘well I’ll carry on, and on and on………’
My
work is all about drawing, marks and mark making, I started out drawing
in pen and ink, but because I love textiles and I love stitching, I
began to draw with thread. Stitched marks have a delightful 3D quality,
the stitches cast shadows, and the closer you get to them the more there
is to see, this is one of the lovely aspects of stitched works.
This is the only political piece that I’ve ever done, or probably ever will do.I was so upset by brexit , the stitching at the end sums it up: I don’t want to leave, please don’t make me.
