Sometimes we can see sounds and
sometimes we can hear the lights. In this work, four elliptical ‘bells’ of
crystalline Kirigami fretwork create the sounds of a cathedral of light. This
is like forest-bathing. Light filters and ricochets through the filigree, as
sunlight through the canopy. But these are four filigree suns themselves. We
look up to be transformed. The silent sounds wash over us, the deeply resonant
and sombre lightness releases the spiritual butterfly that is our soul.
The room is darkened. The ceiling
may be completely filled by scaling up this work to fit the entire ceiling of
the room in which this work is to be placed. A large black carpet is placed in
the room and a few cushions. Visitors are invited to take off their shoes, lie
down on the floor and look up at the installation, bathing and reflecting in
its chimes of light. The sounds of a cathedral choir play softly but sonorously
in the background - reverberating, transporting.
