Venezia è spesso raccontata attraverso i suoi riflessi scintillanti, i palazzi iconici, il brulicare dei visitatori. Ma esiste un’altra Venezia, più silenziosa e autentica, che non si lascia afferrare facilmente. È fatta di gesti quotidiani, di abitudini lente, di vita che scorre lontano dalle rotte del turismo.
Questo progetto fotografico è un tentativo di avvicinarmi a quella parte di città che raramente finisce nelle cartoline. I miei scatti raccontano i suoi abitanti: chi pesca lungo i canali, chi trascina il carrello della spesa tra le calli, chi lavora ogni giorno tra i canali o chi gioca a calcio in un cortile tra le calli come si faceva un tempo. Le persone non sono mai protagoniste isolate, ma parte viva del tessuto urbano: ogni figura è immersa nel proprio spazio, come se Venezia stessa li avvolgesse e proteggesse.
Nelle mie fotografie, per questo progetto, ho scelto una gamma cromatica “gentile”, leggera, come un sussurro, per restituire la delicatezza di questi momenti, la loro poesia sommessa. Non c’è spettacolo, né posa: solo realtà, osservata da lontano, per non interrompere l’armonia di ciò che accade.
"Venice Beyond the Mask" è un invito a guardare con occhi nuovi ciò che spesso resta invisibile. È un omaggio alla città che esiste anche quando nessuno la guarda.
Venice is often depicted through its glittering reflections, its iconic buildings, and the throngs of visitors. But there's another Venice, quieter and more authentic, that's not easily captured. It's made up of daily gestures, slow-paced habits, and a life that unfolds far from the tourist trail.
This photographic project is an attempt to connect with that part of the city that rarely ends up on postcards. My shots tell the story of its inhabitants: those who fish along the canals, those who drag their shopping carts through the streets, those who work daily along the canals, or those who play soccer in a courtyard amidst the streets as they once did. People are never isolated protagonists, but a living part of the urban fabric: each figure is immersed in its own space, as if Venice itself envelops and protects them.
In my photographs for this project, I chose a "gentle" color palette, light as a whisper, to convey the delicacy of these moments, their subdued poetry. There's no show, no pose: just reality, observed from afar, so as not to disrupt the harmony of what's happening.
"Venice Beyond the Mask" is an invitation to look with new eyes at what often remains invisible. It's a tribute to the city that exists even when no one is looking.
