Ovid, Metamorphoses
Bk I:381–415 — The human race is re-created
This work turns to the image of the stone as an origin point. Through it, I reflect on the relationship between the human being and the world — and with the self — as part of a larger totality, in which the individual exists as a fragment rather than as something separate.
Here, the stone represents both primordial matter and origin, while also acting as a symbolic figure of the human: a being defined by endurance and the capacity for metamorphosis. Moving through change — both personal and collective transformation — it retains the trace of what has been experienced, which becomes material for the formation of new realities.
The photograph opens a space of looking and pause — an invitation to long memory. It invites reflection on human nature as a condition in which stability and transformation are not opposed, but coexist.
