The solipsist Archives #1
“The solipist archives” is a sub-series within the body of work known as “The nature of art”, which in turn forms part of the overarching title of my body of work, “Humazooïcs”. This series forms part of my photographic explorations of disappearance, alongside “Nothing/Nowhere, Burning Instants, Burning Memory,...”. I undertook this series due to the total lack of family photographic archives. To compensate for this absence, I scoured second-hand shops and acquired dozens of family albums, selecting the photos that spoke to me. One must be aware that the collected albums often reveal broken lives, family discord, rejection or indifference. I then travelled across several European countries to place the selected images in settings that would breathe new life into them through the magic of art, introducing them into a poetic and nostalgic world that is not unrelated to the gradual disappearance of the printed image in favour of digital media. In short, ‘The solipsist archives"’ constitutes my artistic family album. The work was exhibited in 2012 at the Photography Biennial at Mamac, the art museum in Liège, which has since become La Boverie. The series comprises 100 photographs taken on 6×6 film, digitally printed on Canson Baryta paper in 40×40 format. One last word : "Solipist" means it speaks of myself and the way I look the world through photography.
