Red Apulia Triptych is dedicated to the fertile soil of Southern Italy and the centuries-old olive trees that have shaped the region’s landscape for generations.
The contrast between the cool grey sky and the intensely red earth amplifies a sense of inner tension and the vital energy of the land. The red hue evokes natural pigments and historical painting traditions, particularly terra di Siena, which has been used for centuries in the making of artists’ colours.
The olive trees appear still, almost monumental. Yet as the viewer’s gaze lingers, the landscape gradually reveals itself as a dynamic structure: olive groves seem to sway in the wind, while the surface of the earth transforms into a flowing field of colour and rhythm.
As the opening work of the series, the triptych explores a landscape suspended between documentation and painterly transformation, inviting reflection on the fluid boundary between observation and interpretation.
