These works are part of the series Out of Place, Out of Time.
The series was shot on the beaches of Montenegro using a thermal imaging app on a tablet.
I became interested in how the perception of a familiar photograph changes when the image stops being a document. Thermal imaging strips the landscape of its natural colors and people of their individual features. They become fields of color, existing outside any specific place or time.
At that moment, a beach in Montenegro unexpectedly begins to remind me of summer days from my childhood on the banks of a river or lake near Barnaul in Siberia. Despite differences in countries, languages, and cultures, human behavior remains strikingly similar. We still seek the sun, rest, talk, swim, and observe one another.
