The concept is to highlight that it only takes one second to judge or be judged and for opinions to be formed, whether criticisms or adulation. this is the world we are born into. The women gossiping on the phone and the men (Sean Connery in the middle) being judged is a role reversal of chauvinism. The TVs and camera highlight how fast it is to capture an image or be captured in one, then judged accordingly. The cigarette and lighter is strategically placed in a nod to a potentially post coital ritual, again role reversal as the woman in the pictre (Natalie Wood) is the one in control here.
