In this series I address the theme of female myths. The representation of women in antiquity is revealing of our current perception of femininity.
In Greek mythology, the Nereids are sea nymphs, they reside in the depths of a silver cave. They are represented as beautiful young girls with hair entwined with pearls. Sometimes they are represented as mermaids, half women, half fish. They generally act in groups and generally they do not play an important role and are rather spectators.
The Nereids are proud of their beauty and they can be cruel.
