I photographed the status of different food that been consumed. According to title and leftover on the containers, audience can imagine the moment when the foods are intact. In the photographs, the leftover is zoomed in and presented in front of the public. Audiences are force to watch them. Alienation the image from the audience, we are paying aesthetic attention to the mundane leftover. It’s a modernism tradition from Marcel Duchamp.
In many cultures, having meal is a historical and ritual behavior. It’s also the product of public selection. It’s hard to ignore the influence of diet. In terms of the same dish, there’s different recipe in different people’s mind. Because of the culture and preference, the recipe in different places is varied. In the context of contemporary society, the leftover in the container witnessed public preferences and became the evidence of consumerism. Those images became the containers of memory. The container functions as a mirror, which enables the leftover to provide us many life experiences. We can fully experiencing ritualization, thriftism, entertainment, technologization, poetization and consumerization.
