I was born in Naples, Italy, in 1961, and I live in Rome — the city I set out from and the one I always return to. I have worked in photography since the late 1970s, gradually moving toward a search for a visual language of my own.
My images begin as a painterly vision of a place, which I then transform into photographs. I work each image until the recognizable surface of the city gives way to a more fluid, unstable order — a way of revealing what the eye cannot hold still. Geometry, repetition and rhythm are central to this research: forms and traces recur with an attention closer to music than to description.
As the critic S. Petronici has written, the compositions are arranged "in a pattern that produces harmony, a symphonic score of lights and figures."
I have exhibited in Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Lecce, Naples, Amsterdam, Paris, London, New York, Philadelphia, Berlin, Dubai and Miami. The work Travellers #1 is held in the collections of the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
