Visual for Lorin Mae's Senior Collection "Sacrilegious"
The title of Mae's work "Sacrilegious," it means restricts the body using altered Gothic period cathedral forms as a way to demonstrate my own feelings of inadequacy. Mae describes that "Sacrilegious" flips the popular phrase "my body is a temple," into a visual antithesis. Through the discomfort brought on by each piece's restraint, the wearer is reminded of the uneasiness they feel within their own body due to the pressure and weight of such grand expectations.
Working with Mae made me grow as an artist and expanding my work which made me coming out from my comfort zone. Compare to my usual work which is bright, colorful and playful and this body of work was opposite from what I am comfortable with which made this challenging however, the most meaningful process and memorable work.
