During the pandemic, I think the entire human race was not only affected then but still has remnants of its aftermath. We will never be the same. Where my work is generally to create a stylized and dream world with uncommon objects in the setting, I wanted this to be an obvious bedroom setting with a kitsch cloud tapestry in the background. The white comforter blanket represents clouds. The figure is slumped over and wearing costume-like angel wings, holding a switchblade knife. The figure represents surrender to their mental health and wants to show viewers they are trying to talk about it. The knife represents the shame of intrusive dark thoughts that are sometimes too taboo for casual discussion. The figure is tired and giving up... with thoughts of transcending beyond the reality and realm of "real life". This was to share my vulnerabilities and how my depression was so severe I could not get out of bed for months. It started in 2020 due to loss and an already fragile mindset.
