AUTOCLIMAS
Perché l’hai fatto? ripeté a bassa voce.

AUTOCLIMAS
Running fast down the dark stairs, he opened the steel door and exited. In Front of him was Julio’s pick up truck, it was off, by the sidewalk. He covered his eyes to protect himself from the bright afternoon daylight and with his right hand he leaned on the hot front of his Ford 150.
After a moment of hesitation he began to open his eyes and started walking along the deserted road breathing the fresh air from the plateau.
His breath was heavy, alcoholic, his head was bursting.
Why did you do it, he thought. Why did you do it? Repeated in a low voice.
Now he walked slowly along the sidewalks of the city. A grazing light illuminated the writings on the walls, tracing oblique shadows on the white lime walls and the large fields of colored enamel.
He walked unsteadily for hours. Turning yet another corner, he suddenly felt as if he was being watched. Who was behind the doors that pierced those walls full of signs? Behind the lowered shutters, beyond the dark windows? He heard a murmur far approaching, a whisper of bad, terrible words.
He started walking faster and passed the old station he found himself in front of the first fields. He stopped: the highway running away from the city. Tired and panting he repeated over and over the same sentence: why did you do it, why did you do it, why did you do it…
He felt the wet blade in his trouser pocket. Only now he realized. He pulled out the knife stained with dried blood, a present from a distant birthday: you may need it, she had said that day. Was such a small blade enough to kill her?
