This shot is a capture a section of the steelworks in Port Kembla. Dating back to the company’s
formation in 1928, the steelworks has provided stability to surrounding suburbs and has
been a large influence on the economy, aiding it in keeping afloat in its beginnings and a
recourse of employment for the early migrants of the 60s. In this shot I captured the large
structure’s ambiance, a soft light slightly illuminating the steel. The warm red and rustic
tones rendering a structure that has formed its colour through time, emphasising the significance
of the steelworks. The subtle blue hues that light the structure throughout the
the day show the effect that the steelworks had on us and generations prior to us.
By capturing the dirty tones, I aimed for this photograph to highlight the colossal impact the
steelworks has made on the past, present and future despite its simplistic outside.
