The series "Architectures of Shadow V" questions the architectural space. Is it a closed space? An open space whose whiteness extends beyond the work? The space is yet to be built, to be engaged. It is unfinished, called to adapt and transform itself, and within it my architectural elements evolve. Made with large sculpted acrylic strips, these elements are staged and then lit. Acrylic has excellent light conducting properties which I exploit according to the tint and the thickness of the material. The shadows created extend the architectural forms onto the floor and walls, blurring the lines between the realm of the tangible and that of illusion. The architectural elements and their projections become one, inviting the viewer's gaze to enter. The colored projections open a space which would not exist without the light. Do they symbolize a portal, a path, an opening, a shelter? The architecture and its function become enigmatic and pose questions. They summon our imagination by fragmenting space, structuring it, extending it, modifying it. Its function, an essential notion in the field of architecture, remains open to interpretation. The absence of human presence makes the notion of scale indefinite and keeps the viewer at a distance. The "Architectures of Shadow V" remain, as in the other series, perceptible for just as long as it takes to photograph them. They disappear once the light is turned off.
