Masts stretch far out to the horizon. The viewer's gaze is
guided upwards by the attached loudspeakers, the masts pile up in a
claustrophobic, disorderly manner in front of the viewer. At the same time, the
rainy sky without any environment or disturbing factors creates an uprooted
scenery. The expanse of the firmament is blocked by the masts plantation. The
loudspeaker pillars seem to roar down on the viewer, but due to the rotation of
the whispering bags and their three-part arrangement, the announcement is not
directly addressed to him, but goes in all directions. Everyone is sounded out
- whether they want to or not. These "scream trees" form a forest of
sound transducers that go into infinity. The result is pure sonication, no
communication, no interaction.
From almost 50 different shots, Lena Schabus combines a
Bildcomposing that plays with subtle logical breaks. One quickly notices that
the motif cannot be real, so the eye searches for telltale breaks and
inconsistencies. The artist plays with this pleasure of observation and makes
use of the possibilities of the technique, which looks like reality. The result
is a deceptive impression, an oscillation between the believable and the
unreal.
