In 2023, I embarked on a journey back to my roots, returning to the heart of Monte Amiata, a dormant volcano in central Tuscany. This land, which I have always considered a refuge, has evolved over time, shaped by the invisible yet powerful forces of economy and technology. Monte Amiata, with its millennia-old history, has undergone profound transformations—not only in its natural landscape but also in its architecture and infrastructure.
What was once an untouched environment now coexists with artificial elements such as pipelines, prefabricated structures, and electrical systems. Nature itself, influenced by these forces, appears to have lost part of its authenticity, at times seeming almost artificial—an adaptation forced by the march of progress.
In this context, I have chosen red as the leitmotif of my photographic project. Red serves as the medium through which I explore the tension between the natural landscape and human intervention. The images create a visual dialogue between past and present, nature and technology, authenticity and artificiality.
