A man, soon to take the stage for a performance, finds himself isolated on the stage, waiting for a cue that leads him into a world of fantasy. As the nervous actor lingers backstage, he stumbles upon a "Mango Planting Manual." This discovery sparks his imagination, and he begins to pretend that he's cultivating a mango tree with utmost sincerity. Atop the tree, adorned with vibrant flowers, rests a parrot. This parrot becomes his dearest companion.
Come autumn, the tree doesn't yield the mangoes he had hoped for, and during the winter, he finds himself suffering from hunger and cold. In desperation, he decides to chop down the mango tree, and the parrot, too, departs from his side. However, in the following spring, the tree, now reduced to half its size, begins to sprout new growth. A passing child points to it and remarks, "Oh, that's a lemon tree."
