The fundamental subject of The Myth of Sisyphus is this: it is legitimate and necessary to wonder whether life has a meaning; therefore, it is legitimate to meet the problem of suicide face to face.
Albert Camus
Sisyphus / 1st Movement explores the theme of Sisyphus through the unusual, evocative interpretation that philosopher and writer Albert Camus gave of the myth in his essay The Myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to roll a rock to the top of a mountain, only to have the rock roll back down to the bottom every time he reaches the top. The opera investigates the paralysis of the will through the paradox, the absurd, and the utopia, enlightening how it is possible nowadays to rediscover the meaning of happiness by staying in trouble and fighting for life. The performance focuses on the obstacle concept and how to deal with it.
1-hour performance: 1 lavalier, 1 contact microphone. The sound of the heartbeat and the breath live. 100 kg above my body.
