“Ultra
Violet” is made with acrylic on paper and is inspired by the eponymous film from
2006. Ultraviolet is a color we humans are not able to see, but animals like
bees, butterflies or birds are able to perceive it. My artwork is about something
that is hidden, can’t be seen. In this case it is fertility, since one can does
not see from the outside if someone is fertile or not. A woman can be
attractive, but still infertile. In the film the main character “Violet” has to
deal with termination of pregnancy and is being suggested that she is infertile
afterwards. Violet – as can be seen by our eyes – stands for a strength,
profundity, but also for loss and grief. The woman in the center of my painting
combines all those aspects: she seems attractive, even tempting, but she is infertile,
dealing with loss and grief – like we all do – but also resides strength, perseverance
– all that lies within us and can not be visually detected.
