In the painting “Through Your Eyes”, Peyton depicts how it is easy for one to be perceived as beautiful and unique through the lenses of other people/outsiders and not believe or see the same thing about oneself. The subject in the painting has a look of sternness and observation, perhaps wondering why she has so many spectators staring at her. What she fails to undernstand, or know, is that the viewers (us) are in awe of the beauty and power that she beholds. She does not know her own beauty. In a society that constantly promotes uniformity and conformity, it is all too easy for people to forget what makes them individually special; to be set apart and peculiar. Not different by definition of the world, but by God who knew and created you in His image; but, we have become blind to this truth by way of conforming to the world’s standards. We have forgotten our value and the image that we were already born with. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made” and don’t even know it.
