My artistic journey navigates the confluence of Surrealism and Empiricism, two seemingly contradictory philosophical perspectives. While Surrealism delves into the boundless realm of the unconscious, emphasizing the power of intuition and imagination, Empiricism grounds itself in the tangible reality of observation and experience. I find myself drawn to both these approaches, intrigued by their contrasting yet complementary nature.
In my artistic practice, I embrace the irrational and explore the depths of the unconscious. I assemble everyday objects and contemporary notions, often out of scale and context, to create an otherworldly atmosphere that challenges the viewer’s perception of reality. However, I also incorporate the Empiricist’s reliance on observation and the physical world, ensuring that my surreal landscapes remain grounded in a recognizable reality.
The objects I depict, often imbued with personal nostalgia and a sense of serenity, represent familiar elements of our daily lives. Yet, when placed within the surreal context of my paintings, they take on a new and unexpected significance.
By bridging the gap between these two different approaches, I try to create a unique and multifaceted artistic expression. My paintings are not merely representations of the irrational or the tangible; they are invitations to explore the depths of our own perceptions and the complex interplay between our inner and outer worlds.
In a world often defined by rigid boundaries and logical frameworks, my art offers a glimpse into the boundless possibilities of the imagination. It is a realm where the familiar becomes unfamiliar, where the everyday takes on a dreamlike quality, and where the viewer is invited to participate in a dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious.
Through my art, I pursue wonder and curiosity. By infusing the familiar with the extraordinary, the project seeks to evoke empathy and emotional connection from the public. I believe that art, in its purest form, has the potential to transcend boundaries and connect us on a deeper level.
My last project is titled “The World of My Delights”, where the Delights are all these daily objects and notions mentioned above. It consists of a composition of four canvases, each featuring a single landscape that houses the Delights. The work has a total size of 1.75 x 2.30 metres.
Aesthetic considerations play a significant role in my paintings. The composition, the colours, and the technique employed across all my works provide coherence and unity to the series. I place great value on keeping a homogeneous aesthetic throughout my projects.
