The Healer
I do not begin a painting with an image or a concept.
I begin with a state.
When intention becomes quiet, forms emerge before they are understood. Layers appear, disappear, and return until an underlying order gradually reveals itself. Rather than directing the process, I allow it to unfold.
My paintings are not attempts to explain the invisible. They are encounters with an order that exists before language, before explanation, and sometimes before my own awareness.
Working with naturally cultivated indigo, traditional Japanese plaster techniques, and layered surfaces, I translate what cannot yet be spoken into a visible experience.
The Healer is not a depiction of healing.
It is a place where the boundaries between the inner and the outer, nature and concept, the visible and the invisible begin to dissolve.
The work offers no conclusion.
It simply invites the viewer into the same state from which it emerged.
Artist Statement
Painting is not how I express what I know.
It is how I encounter what I do not yet understand.
Before language, before concepts, before intention, there is an underlying order already present in the world. My practice begins by entering a state in which I can become attentive to that order.
I do not seek to control the outcome of a painting. Instead, I trust the dialogue between material, gesture, time, and the unexpected. Through naturally cultivated indigo, traditional Japanese plaster techniques, and layered surfaces, the work gradually reveals relationships that cannot be planned in advance.
My paintings are neither representations of nature nor abstractions separated from it. They exist in the space where the visible and the invisible, the natural and the conceptual, the inner and the outer begin to meet.
I do not think of painting as an act of expression.
I think of it as an act of translation.
Through painting, I translate my way of encountering the world into a space that others can walk through.
The finished work is not a destination.
It is an invitation.
An open place where viewers may encounter something they have always carried within themselves, but have not yet found words for.
