The painting is about the beginning of change. These are the tiny eggs of a huge squid. Each one will change over time into a full size adult, if it is able to survive the rigours of the marine environment. There is no equality in survival but equally there is no social discrimination underwater , although there are species which are more at risk than others, like “ the cleaners. “ ( little fishes which clean the big fishes teeth ). When the eggs grow to adults size they will have fulfilled their role in the ecosystem and will start the process of change again.
Seeing this egg sac was a magical moment. This beautiful pink, transparent “bag” was floating, into the sea. The divers were recalled, to come back up, to see this rarity in the ocean(Little Cayman). It was a giant squid eggs sack( Diamond back squid) Ignorant as I was, I thought it was a jelly fish, so I was rather cautious on approaching it, until I realised that it was harmless. I painted this to share that special moment with the rest of the world. It was nice to be a witness of this genesis.
