Martyrs’ monument is
located in the heart Beirut. It is an interesting monument because of how
people perceive it according to the time each lived in. The monument was
initially built in honor of the martyrs that were publicly executed in world
war l . Because of its location, during the civil war (1975) it symbolized the
green line separating east and west Beirut, bullet holes are now part of it.
Recently, revolutionaries have been protesting around it. This iterative public
memory reflects a major trait of the Lebanese which is resilience.
