The road to Gsteig from Gstaad runs up against the mountain at the far end of this end of the world. The streets are not cleared of snow in winter, and there is hardly any sunshine in the village. The children come out of the little primary school with their sleds and their hats pulled tightly over their heads. They don't go home straight away.
