My work, "Forgiveness," was inspired by the best of my life dream collaboration of Jazz Pianist Mr. Seiji Endo and the human national treasure, Master of Noh, Reijiro Tsumura at Noh-Gaku-Dou of Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in Shibuya, during a dreaming concert. In the midst of the intense and captivating performance, it felt as if all my past actions were sacred, and everything forgiven my souls. The overwhelming presence of the performer, the quiet sounds, and the huge higher power of colors emanating from their attire created an extraordinary atmosphere. As Mr. Endo's melodies were silence and inner most forgiveness away, it felt like being pierced by a butterfly's wings. To ensure I wouldn't miss a moment, I never took my eyes off them until turned to Mr. Tsumura different direction. The Noh-Gaku-Dou is sacred space and used old Japanese rock pigment and it depicts nature with everything stripped down in the side.
Overwhelmed by the experience, I wrote down most of it the following day, capturing the sense of forgiveness that existed within the music and dance, and contained it within the frame of a wooden artwork. Using rock surface pigments, I depicted the skin, and with pine smoke ink and white lead, I expressed the musical scales using Japanese calligraphy KANA techniques. The artwork was meticulously crafted, with only a touch of white lead applied to highlight the beauty of the wood grain.
