My work explores the physical and metaphorical spaces we inhabit, focussing on how domestic spaces absorb and reflect our emotions. I contrast the vibrant colours of my paintings with their intense, hauntological subject matter, utilising defamiliarisation to create tension and unease. Acrylic paintings are layered paint on paint leaving the traces of this underpainting at the edges of each form. This slippage and revealement embody the layered history and meaning inherent in these spaces. Initially familiar and comforting the work ultimately prompts questions about these strange, box like spaces which form the stage sets for our lives.
