This painting is part of a series of paintings
about "Barrio Salvador" (Santiago, Chile) paintings about time, architecture,
light, color, and transformation.
Salvador
is an overall residential old neighborhood with gable roofs, maybe three-story
buildings, and convenience stores, it also contains a great number of
hospitals… Its proximity to the city center makes it a loud place to live in,
with constant movement and traffic. At the same time, it is surrounded by other
neighborhoods that have evolved more rapidly: Barrio Italia (cultural,
gentrified, and touristic) and Barrio Infante (Filled with galleries,
innovation and residential homes). At first glance Salvador is the ugly
duckling of the lot, and the most lacking identity. But living and working
there you get used to its ugliness and oldness, and just as you begin to see
the beauty of its shapes and start to save memories of the places, progress hits.
After 30 years of abandonment, the haunted wing of Hospital Salvador has been
destroyed and now begins a new construction, the old houses are being demolish
and new towers are built in their place. This is the story of a neighborhood, but
also the general feeling of progress of a city, and undoubtedly reflects a
global trend.

Esta pintura es parte de una serie sobre “Barrio Salvador” (Santiago, Chile), son pinturas sobre el tiempo, la arquitectura, la luz, el color y la transformación.
Salvador es un barrio viejo, generalmente residencial, con casas antiguas a dos aguas, quizás edificios de tres pisos y tiendas de barrio, también contiene un gran número de hospitales. Su proximidad al centro de la ciudad lo vuelve bullicioso, con constante movimiento y tráfico. Al mismo tiempo, está rodeado de tiendas de otros barrios que han evolucionado más rápido: Barrio Italia (cultural, gentrificado y turístico) y Barrio Infante (Lleno de galerías, innovación y casas residenciales). A primera mirada, salvador es el más feo de todos, y el que menos tiene identidad. Pero al vivir y trabajar en este espacio, uno se acostumbra a su fealdad y antigüedad, y justo cuando comienzas a ver belleza en sus formas y a guardad recuerdos del lugar, el progreso ataca. La antigua ala del Hospital Salvador inicia su remodelación luego de 30 años de abandono y las antiguas casas a dos aguas pronto serán demolidas para situar altas torres verticales. Esta es la historia de un barrio, pero también el sentimiento general de progreso de una ciudad e indudablemente refleja un fenómeno mundial.
Esta pintura en particular mira la antigua ala del hospital Salvador antes de ser destruida y unas casas viejas en la noche.
