This work is made up of 3 contiguous pieces that, as in all of Cristina Viñals' works, represent a part of nature, in this case it is the submerged forests of Mallorca, oceanic posidonia forests. This plant that adapted to the marine environment forms one of the most important ecosystems for maintaining biodiversity and oxygenating sea water through photosynthesis. A delicate and variant ecosystem, deciduous in autumn. Hence the symbolism with the fragile glass and also changing throughout the day.
Always committed to
the environment, she believes that the cultural sector can raise awareness in
people's mentalities, which is why she uses natural pigments to make her works
and they evoke nature. With the glass mosaic she express the ambiguous
relationship of the nature, which, like glass, is resistant and fragile, light
and heavy, transparent and opaque.
Furthermore,
depending on how the light hits the painting it changes tone and texture, which
gives the sensation that it is alive.
With 24k gold
Cristina highlights the cracks while repairing them, so they are proof of
imperfection and fragility but also of resilience (ability to recover).
