From the Ashes and Passage series are focusing on the matter of ash and gold. In my perception they contrast one another like light and darkness – they are two poles opposite each other, but sharing one axis.
Incorporating these elements into my painting, becomes the central challenge of my practice. The record of the creative process – experimenting with the painting medium and gesture – is connected to the idea of light and darkness. The collision of these two values is what makes the painting. This encounter on the painting surface exposes the state of transition – defined through physical matter attempting to go beyond (transcend) its materiality and to touch the immaterial, the unknown, and the infinite.
