The idea behind the present piece is related to the exploration of physical dimensions. Having started my artistic journey from working on the two dimensions inherent to the canvas - height and width - I then continued by adding a 3rd - depth - to eventually proceed with the inclusion of time, 4th (performance practice). In this work, I am now attempting to take my explorations even further by considering a 5th dimension - perception. In reality, the process I devised makes use of a visible three-dimension. In order to achieve this, I attach the structural elements (around 10cm deep) to the canvas. By using one tone of paint for the whole painting, I open a sensual reading of the work. The use of the grey scale is intended to open wide individual perceptions, given that the application of colour, with its different tones and gradations, normally produces a different response according to the viewer. Although black and white - one absorbs the light while the other one rejects it - and knowing that black is not considered a colour, in this work, I have opted for this choice, with a particular intention of not using a colour. The process combines site specific and time specific investigations within the rhetoric of minimalism. The concept of perception behind the meaning of my work lies in visualising the personal dialogue established between the piece and the viewer. Depending on the distance and the angle in which the viewers set themselves in relation to the work, the latter will present itself as a different experience from every different point. Challenging the visual intended flatness that is present where the viewer's relationship is set by looking straight into the painting, creating views to be perceived from an angle incorporates depth into the work.
