Having moved to one of the few remaining areas of ancient deciduous forest in England, the woods enchanted me with its towering giant oak trees and busy wildlife. Some parts of the area date back over 8,000 years to the end of the last Ice Age. As if childhood tales became alive, there is almost tangible magic that lingers around the misty, moss-covered woodland. ‘Night Vision' was inspired by its visible and invisible cosmos. It is a mysterious and versatile painting. The translucent paint covering the copper base has a special effect. When brightly lit, the coppers' reflection behaves as a light-box, highlighting the painting from below. When that happens, it becomes extremely vivid, flickering and bursting with colour. In low light, the dark glossy surface and intriguing cellular texture take precedence, and the image as if it is new, will open up an entirely different world. It has a strong feminine feel to it, with both its dark and bright manifestations.
