"To wipe the tears.."
One out of one serie (in total 3 series) about Mug-shots from the police museum of Sydney about 1920. When I work with these women from different charakters, different crimes, it is like to accompany them for a while. In this case she was a respectfull "normal" woman who fell in love with a young doctor. When he wanted to quit her, she shot him and tried to shoot herself. My interpretation was a strong pain, desire, hopelessness...
The application of a handkerchief (a "hand care chief"..) was to wipe the tears. The bounding of the hands ... the prison, the red spot on her cloth, kneeling beneath ....
With the applications and the stitching I make commentaries, supporting the picture, emphasizing special themes in there. They dont form the pictures, I am not perfect in handcrafting. I like old photos, they are like from another world, posing, staying still in time. The stitches sometimes are wandering around with little use of colours. Result is a mixture of painting and sculpturing, because the work goes in to a light three dimensional appearance.
Framed like a japanese roll picture.
