This is my very first proper snow painting, something I had wanted to make for a long time. It comes from a photograph I took in December 2022, on one of my first trips home to southern Estonia after years in Australia. After so long away, the snowy forest, the frosted trees and the deep quiet of the winter felt almost unreal. I painted it with my fingers, in oil, building the trunks and the snow stroke by stroke, to hold onto that cold light and stillness.
