The Sea Totem Mask explores the memory of the oceans through recycled materials and traditional craftsmanship. Made from burlap, recycled tire, hand-stitching, and acrylic paint, this work evokes a ritual mask whose spirals recall ocean currents and the stories of coastal communities. Beyond its ecological dimension, it pays tribute to the Atlantic Ocean, which became the grave of thousands of African women, men, and children who fell victim to the transatlantic slave trade. Torn from their homeland, many died during the crossing and were thrown into the sea. This mask thus becomes a totem of memory, reflection, and resistance. By giving a second life to abandoned materials, the work affirms art's power to preserve memory, pass on history, and make visible the lives swallowed by oblivion.
