Madame Gérôme On The shore. Diptych from 'Into The Wild' series, about the intimate relationship we have with nature - nature that is disappearing, domesticated, put under glass or simply destroyed. This idyllic lakeside scene does not exist but in advertising images or those of a bygone and mythologised age. Seen up close, the woman resting by the water is in decay. Her image is a reinterpretation of an odalisque, a perfectly idealised woman by the academic french painter Léon-Jean Gérôme (1824-1904).
