Portrait 3D
The stories from the afterlife. Serie of 8 Poertaits in multilayer technics.
The graphic experiments of the "Walter" series have generated some echoes in my other works from the period 2021 to 2022. The fascination of drawing has several focal points for me. On the one hand, there is the reduction of the work equipment, with which the object comes to the fore much more clearly. In my opinion, dealing with the object achieves much more depth in a graphic work than can be achieved with other techniques. Each line, point or small area decides the balance and harmony or expression of the whole work. In connection with dealing with the drawn object, the dimensions also come to light. Nothing unusual and nothing specific to the drawing.
I can still remember very well the discussions about perspective and flat representations in painting. From a conventional medical point of view, I always had problems with the terms that were occasionally used as a standard of quality. It was perhaps due to my technical inability or a lack of willingness to adapt. But I'm convinced that for every work, for every creative statement, the entire spectrum of means should be reinvented and reassembled. It sounds difficult, but it isn't, because a lot can be called up intuitively from what is known. What matters is the willingness to do it.
The third dimension of the Portrait 3D series is the result of the development of the "close-up", with the difference that the three-dimensional structure of these drawing surfaces only served to alienate, while in this series an approach from afar, from the beyond, is achieved should. So got an inverse function. The first two layers were created similar to the "close-up", the other three to four then by shadowy drawings on the light fleece.
Coincidentally, of the eight people in the series, four were victims of gun violence and three died as a result. No feature that played a conscious role in the selection of the people. Emotionally, however, it probably plays a role in how someone left our world. In any case, what was decisive for me was what role the people took on in their lives and what the impact on society was. But the viewer should make up his own mind about this.
