Luxuria
Latin for lust, opulence, extravagance, arrogance
Hedone - slightly Mother Mary-looking - is enthroned among her companions. Gold shimmer envelops the scene. Blue and red in their symbolism are added; Proclaiming virtue and divine love. Aphrodite's swans and the apple link the cultures.
Lust is a mortal sin in the Christian faith. Lust - especially for women - frowned upon.
The impunity of lust and the self-determination that goes with it are my central points of discussion. It shaped so many areas of life and culture. From hairless vulva in art history to the open "slutshaming" of women who do not meet the norm of the reserved, married woman. Generations of people who still feel guilty about masturbation. Feminism and emacipation are often still seen as a threat.
Especially in these times, however, a longing for ecstasy can also be observed.
