We never see just an image. At every layer of our reality is permeated with meanings and experiences — our own and those of those who came before us. We do not stand alone; we are always embedded in living processes that shape who we are.
This work belongs to the Vintage Crossing cycle, in which fragments or copies of Old Master paintings are recontextualized as elements within contemporary art, stating that our life and work always is entangled with others in the present or past.
"This is a defining trait of Conny Kunert's art: visual storytelling that resists finality—stories that emerge only through traces, through affinities and conjunctions, always leaving space for ambiguity and interpretation." (Karin Mairitsch, Rector of Zurich University of the Arts)
