Without preliminary sketches, I began by painting from the edges of the canvas. Initially, the composition was horizontal, but through a series of spontaneous decisions, it gradually shifted to a vertical orientation. Perhaps the stifling heat of the subtropics influenced my color choices, as the initial blues and greens seem to evoke a desolate, sweltering scene. Yet, the summer ambiance may not necessarily reflect warmth in human connections.
The red block near the lower center, added only in the final stages, appears to symbolize a character indifferent to relationships within the narrative—much like a half-eaten watermelon left to languish under the hot sun on a deserted beach.
